Abstract

The research trend of 21st century provides scope to draw various aspects of Indian Knowledge System from Sanskrit language. The Sanskrit term ‘Śikṣā’ is a traditional term means to study of sound and pronunciation in India. In modern context the word ‘Phonetics’ is used for this purpose of ‘Śikṣā’. Phonetics in the Sanskrit language has been addressed in some detail, since this is vital, because the ancient Indian knowledge tradition is oral. The entire transmission of the Vedas from time immemorial has survived several thousand years on account of scientific methods of oral rendering. This has been possible on account of a well-developed science of phonetics. The present study humbly discusses exploring some philosophical and spiritual aspects of Sanskrit phonetics.
